Tour Day 1: Delhi
On arrival at Delhi transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is at
your leisure.
Tour Day 2: Delhi
The morning is at leisure. In the afternoon take a sightseeing tour
of Old and New Delhi. The tour includes a visit to the
Presidential-Palace, Parliament House, India Gate,Qutab Minar,
Jantar Mantar, the stylish Connaught Circus, Red Fort, Chandni Chowk,
Mahalaxmi Temple and Mahatma Gandhi Samadhi. The evening is free.
Tour Day 3: Delhi/Leh
Catch the early morning flight to Leh, the capital of Ladakh.Leh has
a population of 50,000 and is located in a small valley, north of
Indus valley. Rest for the day and get acclimatized to the high
altitude of Leh.
Tour Day 4: Leh /Alchi
Drive from Leh to Alchi.On the way to Alchi visit Lamayuru. Lamayuru
is a nice little hamlet surrounded by the rugged Hindukush peaks.
Explore the villages around Lamayuru.The gompa at Lamayuru, is the
most famous and fabulous monastery in Ladakh. The gompa dominates
the enitre landscape. Visit the Alchi and Likir monasteries that are
located near Saspol on the Srinagar-Leh road.These monasteries have
huge clay statues of Budda in different forms. The main attraction
of these monasteries is the 1000-year old wall paintings. These
paintings are so exquisite that it makes the visit worthwhile.Spend
the night at Alchi.
Tour Day 5: Alchi /Leh
On the way back to Leh from Alchi, vist the Rizong and Spitul
monastaries. The Rizong gompa is about 5 miles along a steep, rocky
track from the main road. The nunnery of Julochen is also here. The
gompa belongs to the Gelukpa order. Just before Leh on the
Srinagar-Leh road on a hill top over looking the Indus is the Spituk
monastery. This monastery has some prized tankha and has a chamber
with an enormous statue of Kali. The face of this statue of Kali is
unveiled only once a year. The chamber has an ancient collection of
facemasks too.
Tour Day 6: Leh
Spend the shopping and discover some interesting infomation about
Ladakhi art and culture by visiting the Tibetan refugee camp at
Choklamsar, the Library and the Ecological Development center.
Tour Day 7: Leh
Spend the day visiting the Leh Bazaar,Leh Palace and the women's
vegetable market. In the evening visit Zanskar and Leh monasteries.
The Leh Gompa is situated above the Leh Palace and was built in
1430. The gompa has a 47 ft. tall statue of Buddha, which the
Ladakhis call "Chamba". According to the Lamas of the monastery this
statue is that of the future Buddha. Butter lamps burn in front of
the statue through out the day and night. The Zanskar gompa is 2
miles from Leh. This monastery is renowned for its excellent
collection of miniatures in pure gold and a number of other splendid
painting.
Tour Day 8: Leh/Delhi/Agra
Catch the morning flight to Delhi. On arrival drive directly to
Agra. In the afternoon visit the famous Taj Mahal and the Agra
Fort.Spend the night at the hotel.
Tour Day 9: Agra/Fatehpur-Sikri/Jaipur
Drive to Jaipur and on the way stop over at Fatehpur-Sikri, a huge
fort comples that served as the capital of India before it was
shifted to Delhi in the 17th century. On arrival at Jaipur check in
at the hotel. In the afternoon visit the City Palace, the Albert
Museum and the Observatory.
Tour Day 10: Jaipur/Delhi
Enjoy an elephant ride to the Amber Fort and visit the city and
bazaars of Jaipur. In the afternoon leave for Delhi. On arrival
transfer to the hotel. The evening is at leisure.
Tour Day 11: Depart Home
Trasfer to airport at appropriate time to catch connecting flight.
